  • Use the internet confidently e.g. searching, shopping online or online forms and set-up email
  • Use a range of digital technology such as tablets, smartphones or digital cameras
  • Be encouraging, empathetic and a good listener
  • Give between 1 and 2 hours a week to help someone gain digital literacy skills.

We know DLCs will have a range of digital skills and experience; and some of you will use more tools than others. That’s the great thing about having a network of volunteers – there will be a wealth of knowledge between you – so don’t worry if you’ve never Skyped or been on eBay before!

Digital Learning Champion Training Days

Our 1/2 day Digital Learning Champion (DLC) training days will equip you with the foundations you need to support beginners wanting to learn basic digital skills. During the day we’ll explore the barriers stopping people getting online and give ideas on how to overcome them, give tips and suggestions on how to motivate people and look at some of the best online resources for learning digital skills. This is a hands-on session and you will need to bring a laptop or tablet with you. There are 12 places on each course so we recommend booking early. All DLCs will be asked to complete an application form before attending the training day.

After the training day we will link you up with a voluntary or community group looking for a volunteer to help support their digital outreach work such as a local library, Age UK Cheshire, Peaks & Plains Housing Trust or Cheshire Community Action. You will also get the opportunity to attend further courses to develop your knowledge. Recent courses have included: Family History Online, an Introduction to Twitter and My House of Memories: Digital Dementia Awareness training.
